UV transmission filters may be used in illumination systems as well as in fluorescence applications that need to transmit the UV energy and blocking most of visible light.

Different from traditional filters use color glasses, one of the unique feature is that rejected light is reflected instead of absorbing, resulting in lower autofluorescence and improved heat tolerance.

Intense UV radiation sometimes cause a permanent reduction in the transmission of color glasses.
